One of the things that separates a great product from an adequate one is the manner in which the details improve the experience of the user. The data storage allowance available to all eBoss users is a perfect example of this. Users of the best recruitment software solution around may store crucial data on our servers, making their own businesses more efficient, versatile, and safe.
Uploading Data Protects It
Bad things happen to computers: criminals steal them, an unlucky lightning strike or an uncoordinated person spilling a liquid can fry them. When a computer disappears or is destroyed, the owner no longer has access to the data stored on it. While software can be re-purchased and reloaded onto new computers, the data – that contact information, job listings, and other essential and business-specific information – is often extremely difficult (if not impossible) to replace.
For a recruiter, this data is what enables him to do business. Losing the data is usually disastrous, and is always inconvenient. Additionally, imagine the blow a recruiter’s professional image takes if the firm is forced to contact clients requesting that all active job listings be re-sent and place ads urging candidates and existing employees to stop in and repeat the application process. All of this can be prevented simply by uploading important data to our remote server where it is protected from local disaster.
Uploading Data Makes Our Users’ Businesses more Efficient and Versatile
It is a simple truth that the more cluttered a computer is, the less efficient that machine is for the user. Wading through a tonne of excess files to find the one being searched for adds time to each task. Over the course of years, this added time may total a great deal of time indeed. By offering users a place to archive information, we allow them to use their own computer resources for the business at hand.
The remote storage also increases the versatility of our users. Imagine a recruiter having successfully convinced a new client to come on board, only to discover that he has run out of contracts. For an eBoss user who has stored the contract form on our server, any computer with Internet access and a supported browser can quickly print a copy in virtually any office. Since any data type can be stored, this versatility extends to reference materials, sales materials, pictures, forms, anything that can be stored on a computer and that having instant access to would be beneficial.
The eBoss team has not created an adequate product. With an eye to detail, every aspect of eBoss is designed to help a recruiter run a successful business. Our data storage allowance is just one small example of this fact.

Do you know what keeps many people from upgrading to a better solution? The fear and apprehension they feel when they imagine themselves overwhelmed by the task of moving their existing data to the new system.
In today’s closer look at the best choice in recruitment software, eBoss, we are going to touch on why this apprehension is never a worry for eBoss users.
Virtually every piece of database software in the world uses a similar or identical format for information storage. What this means is that many times the information can be imported into the eBoss database with little or no change. Far from being alone in the dark when performing these migrations, our users know they have the expert eBoss team standing by to offer assistance. As our success relies on the success of our clients, we are committed to helping them upgrade to eBoss in as quick and easy a manner as possible.
Another aspect of our data migration planning that is often overlooked is the ability to repeat the procedure with additional data in the future. The eBoss Migration tools quickly identify the data being imported and offers the user the opportunity to confirm exactly what fields it relates to in the database. It identifies duplicates and can also add a batch of CVs to existing records using the eBoss parser.
As the best solution in recruitment software, we strive to make eBoss as available as possible to aid in the success of our users. The software’s ability to easily import data using our free migration tools and our team’s willingness to guide users through the process are just two of the ways that we accomplish this.

In our continuing series of articles designed to help prospective users understand exactly why eBoss is capable of allowing a person to spend just a few minutes performing tasks that once required a dedicated employee working all day, we’ll be looking at our website integration.
It is no secret that a growing number of potential employers and employees are turning to the Internet in their search for the perfect worker or position. The problem for a small business owner is that the explosion of Internet sites and the techniques behind building them has created an environment where deciding which route is the correct one is virtually impossible. There is a lot to out in and anything missed will cause pain later in extra costs and implementation time.
Because of this, our website integration is a combination of service and product. On the service level, our professional designers have already done the painstaking research to narrow the template options down to a few clean, proven effective styles. This initial selection saves years of trial and error on the part of someone attempting to find the best styles for a recruitment website.
For recruitment firms with an existing website, our designers again step up to help migrate the existing content to a new template, or deal with any compatibility issues that could arise from someone choosing to stick with their existing website style.
Those who are likely to benefit most from the eBoss website integration are companies with no existing website or those looking to transform theirs quickly. Like any new activity where there are many ways to go wrong, having the backup of professionals dedicated to helping you make the best choices for your situation is a huge advantage over striking out in a random direction and hoping to meet success.
Once the website is fully integrated with the eBoss database, its capabilities truly begin to shine. Adding new job postings or deleting filled positions can be done on the fly in moments. Employment related news can be screened in the core eBoss platform and automatically posted on the website. The now mandatory social media tools allow tweeting of jobs and posting to web 2.0 aggregator sites. This level of automation is a large part of the reason eBoss users are finding their businesses running more efficiently than ever.
The ability to have a staff of professional website designers with experience in his or her specific industry guide a business owner through the process of building a professional and powerful website, along with the ability to painlessly keep that website updated with the latest job openings and employment news gives eBoss users a massive advantage in the effort to generate business via the Internet.

This is the first in a series of posts designed to provide insight into the way eBoss works. Our satisfied users already understand that they have the best solution to running a recruitment business. These posts will lead those who are interested in boosting the professionalism and profitability of their business to the next level through the inner workings of the software and explain the real-world benefit of the individual features eBoss provides.
By using eBoss for your recruitment member site, you can allow both clients and candidates controlled access to information and listings of available positions or applicants and the ability to express an interest with one click. For both, having a site to frequently visit provides them with a sense of community and builds loyalty. Instead of simply being a company they deal with, this sense of community helps them see your firm as a partner.
For Candidates
Remember who candidates are. They are people searching for employment. They are in a position that often breeds a feeling of helplessness. Obviously, they expect a recruitment firm to work on their behalf seeking positions for which they are qualified, but having a site they can access to review jobs and qualification requirements grants them the feeling of actually being proactive and contributing to the employment search. Additionally, having this information is extremely useful for those applicants considering a change in career direction. Understanding the requirements for various positions and the areas in their own qualifications that could be strengthened gives them direction for becoming a stronger candidate. For many, this understanding could be the difference between a client that becomes a productive employee or someone who gives up the search altogether.
For Clients
Those making the hiring decisions at a company need information to do their jobs properly. For a recruitment firm, being the first source of such information that comes to mind is a powerful thing. While any recruitment firm is willing and able to find candidates to send to interviews, becoming a resource that they can use to stay informed on employment trends in their industry is a crucial advantage. Beyond being generally informative, scanning your candidates could be the deciding factor in choosing to create new positions – creating business for your firm that would have never existed without the members site.
A recruitment professional is the bridge between companies seeking employees and candidates seeking positions. By providing a casual setting for both parties to see what the other needs, all under the watchful eye and guiding hand of your firm, a recruitment professional can cater to both parties, allowing them to perform their side of the employment dance with realistic expectations and an understanding of how they can get the best results. Extending its usefulness as a resource can make a recruitment firm indispensable to candidates and clients alike. Our next Inside eBoss article coming soon

There is a perception among many employers that the current generation of workers entering the workforce (often referred to as Generation Y) lacks loyalty to employers and operates according to a strange, inexplicable set of priorities. Kenexa has recently mined their data from the last twenty-seven years and found this to be largely a misconception.
According to Kenexa’s data, 41% of this generation’s young workers feel that they are fairly paid, right in line with the 31% and 41% recorded for workers a generation ago and two generations ago, respectively. Further, the study showed that 31% of 27 year old workers were considering a move to a different company – the exact percentage indicated by a similar study of workers performed in 1990.
When asked to analyse the apparent divergence between reality and perception for today’s young workers, David Lyons, MD at eBoss said the following, “The perception that the younger generation is irresponsible and flighty is as old as time itself. Each successive generation breeds a generation gap to be conquered. Take music for example: 50 years ago, the younger people were being “corrupted” by rock-n-roll music. For many of today’s executives, rock-n-roll is “their” music and the young people are being corrupted by hip-hop. In a similar fashion to music tastes, priorities outside the workplace have changed for today’s generation when compared to previous generations because technology, fashions and the standard of living have changed.
In terms of loyalty, entry level workers have always had the highest turnover rates in any industry and always will. Every generation is composed of dilettantes, solid workers, and superstars, and the percentages of each group remain remarkably consistent. Dilettantes move to another company seeking their place in the working world; superstars are often recruited to a better opportunity with a company that recognises their potential.
The opportunity for recruiters represented by young workers is in seeking these young superstars who are searching for challenge and growth potential – in recognising when the drive and ambition of a talented young worker may fit a position even better than an experienced, but unremarkable worker. Like a marriage counsellor, the job of a headhunter is often to seek common ground between parties with vastly different opinions and expectations.” Recruiters who can recognise young talent and spot positions where their natural energy will benefit the company are able to provide a bridge between generations that results in the best outcome for everyone involved.

On October 1st, the Agency Workers Regulations (AWR) will take effect. Ostensibly drafted to allow long term contract workers to achieve parity of pay with permanent employees performing similar duties, there is widespread doubt that the new legislation will actually perform as advertised.
Asked about the impact of the legislation, David Lyons MD at eBoss had the following to say:
“On the surface, it is a great idea for quality workers to be paid their worth. The possible problems arise when undiscovered grey areas in the legislation appear, companies are shackled by being forced to actually pay far more for contract employees, and the regulations are applied in situations where the legislation’s definition of a long term worker does not match the industry standard for that position.
As a new set of regulations, we have yet to see how it will be implemented. Just as in any legal situation, it is inevitable that people will seek to apply it to situations where they really shouldn’t. Fighting potential lawsuits because the wording of the regulations are vague could inspire fear in companies, causing them to avoid hiring altogether in such circumstances.
The other possible large scale economic disadvantage of the act is that it is largely based on the misconception that businesses pay less for contract workers. While the actual salaries of contract workers can be less in some situations, the companies actually pay more for the flexibility of dealing with a larger pool of candidates and workers on demand that a recruitment agency offers. Forcing agencies to increase their payout to employees could cause companies to be leery of using contract employees altogether, depriving both agencies and their employees of income. There is a point where the added flexibility is no longer worth the extra expense. If the new regulations force businesses past that point, it could result in a great many people out of work.
Lastly, industries have their own definition of a qualified employee. According to the AWR, a worker in a position for 12 weeks is a long term employee. Is a new contractor with 12 weeks of experience an “old hand” at the job? As things stand now, such industries are more constrained by finding legitimately qualified professionals for contract positions than the money involved. If the AWR results in all industries treating someone with a mere 3 months of experience as a qualified expert, companies could legitimately use these workers instead of the seasoned professionals they are using now. This would result in a sweeping drop in worker quality in many industries.”
While many wait with hopeful anticipation for the regulations to take effect, whether the new act will be a positive thing overall remains to be seen.

Based on a recent study done by Executive Grapevine, companies are positioning themselves for an economic upturn due to positive economic indicators. A growing factor in this positioning is their increased use of recruiters to fill the top ranks.
As the recent recession has forced companies to pare staff down to the bare minimum, those with the foresight to hire the many available, experienced, and qualified executives released during the downturn will be in an advantageous situation when positive economic activity builds momentum. One of the results of the recession though, is that these companies pared their recruiting staff along with all the other areas of their business. In the difficult position of trying to enact massive recruitment activity with a small staff, companies in the UK are increasing their reliance on independent recruitment professionals to solve the dilemma. According to the study, even at this early point in the economic turnaround, corporate recruitment assignments have risen over 5% in the last 12 months (the first positive 12 month period since 2008).
Along with the rising demand for recruitment, the salaries for top level employees is rising with the market’s recognition of growing demand. Due to this, actual fees paid to recruitment firms have risen 15% in the same period.
While eBoss recruitment software users clearly have the advantage with the organisational tools at hand, any UK recruitment firm ready and able to demonstrate its professionalism and work ethic by reaching out to new clients through advertising campaigns stands to benefit from the situation. After several years of virtual stagnation, the hopeful economy represents one of the greatest opportunities for recruitment firms since World War II.
As the rising demand pushes salaries for new hires, a growing number of companies recognising the danger of losing quality employees are following suit by offering pay increases to their existing staff. The fees available to recruiters for positions with salaries under £200,000 have actually fallen during this period, indicating that the biggest gains are being made in the upper level employment areas. While this is likely to change as the momentum really builds, this early indicator is that companies are competing for top level staff to be the nucleus around which the next decade of business is build.
The signs are clear, the proactive businesses are preparing themselves to take full advantage of an economic upturn by hiring top level staff, and proactive recruitment professionals are making better fees than ever providing them with what they want.

Whilst you may not initially relish the thought of voluntarily registering for VAT, there are certainly some advantages to doing so, ahead of the time when you are required by law to do so, known as compulsory registration. Let me explain :
• Being registered for VAT can give your business a certain amount of “kudos” when it is being marketed to potential customers, they may see you as larger than you really are, or more financially viable and draw comfort from this.
• Being registered means that, yes, you do have to charge VAT to your customers, but, possibly of more importance, it also means that you can reclaim VAT on some or all of your purchases thus reducing their net cost to your business. This can provide a valuable financial boost to a new business where the start up costs for equipment etc can be quite high anyway, even before 17.5% (or 20% from next year) VAT is added on.
• If all or the majority of your customers are VAT registered businesses anyway, they should not be too concerned if you charge them VAT, as they will simply claim a credit on their VAT returns. So there is no customer downside in you registering, in these circumstances.
• With a compulsory VAT registration turnover limit of £70,000 (from 1 April 2010, on a rolling monthly basis), most successful businesses will have a need to register anyway, at an early stage, possibly within the first year or two of starting out. Doing so ahead of the compulsory registration point could simply mean you are able to get to grips with the VAT system as your business starts, whilst there are fewer “inputs” to deal with, and as issues arise you can perhaps learn as you go along, together with everything else of course!
• Yes, charging VAT to customers who are not VAT registered will increase your costs to them, but as you will obviously want your business to grow, why not get them used to it from the very out-set; there will be no shock at a later date as your business grows, to a point when you have to increase your prices to include VAT, as you hit the compulsory registration limit.
• Once registered you can still reclaim VAT on business related purchases made prior to registration, if they meet the VATman’s criteria and with set timeframes.
